Terms and Conditions

Terms and conditions, when chimney sweeping it is expected that your flue and fire have been installed by a competent person and have been signed off by Building Control or a recognised trade body HETAS or OFTEC etc. It is also expected that they have been regularly maintained and serviced.

External Roof, Chimney

Chimney cowls, bird guards and pots should be fitted and secured, so that during sweeping they are unable to be accidentally be pushed off.TV aerials and their associated cables should be secure, satellite dishes and their associated cabling should also be secure.

Chimney Liners

Stainless steel liners do have a lifespan! Depending on the type of stainless steel 316 or 904, fuel used and how the stove is operated. The lifespan of a liner can be dramatically shortened. I only use soft flue brushes and in the case of creosote or tar a specialist liner whip-head in association with liner rods to avoid damaging your liner. However a liner can fail, if this happens, I will make you aware and offer advice on the best course of action. Liners usually fail prematurely for several reasons, type of fuel and stove operation – linked to build-up of creosote and tar (I have seen liners that are perforated due to tar, creosote and acids degrading them). Poor installation with no insert sleeve to protect the top of the liner. Yes there are still installers leaving a loose, ragged end of stainless steel at the top of the flue liner to get caught on the chimney sweeps brush and unwind the liner during sweeping.

Installations

It is assumed that everything mentioned below is well maintained and in good order this includes all TV aerials, wires, satellite dishes, and intruder alarm boxes and its associated wiring, roof tiles, guttering and anything roof related. I cannot know the condition of the internal or external walls or connecting walls to the proposed work or the state of existing chimney flue linings or the location of electric cables, pipes under floors, pipes behind boxing boards, or the condition inside loft areas.

Any quotation for completing the work as described, written and verbal. It does not include material price increases or additional labour and materials which may be required should unforeseen works arise after the work has started. If any unforeseen works arise I will discuss with you and this may affect the quoted price, this may also have an effect the completion date. I cannot not be held responsible for any delivery delays or damaged goods. Start dates can be affected by delays to materials etc.

Removal or re-fitting of existing stoves and liners or components. If the flue system has been installed by a third party, some of the components may not be visible. It is therefore difficult to assess the condition of the components or the installation procedure used by the third party. The quotation price could change after the excavation work.

All work will be carried out to the ‘J’ Part Building Regulations Standards, signed off buy Building Control.

I advise that you read the stove manufacturers manual that is supplied with your appliance and make yourself aware of the operating controls to ensure safe, clean and efficient operation of your appliance.

Most flue systems and appliances have a warranty issued by the manufacturer, it is important that you contact the manufacturer and register the flue or stove with them. You must then follow the manufacturers guidelines to avoid invalidation of the warranty.

You must only use fuels recommended by the stove and flue lining manufacturer. Wood must be seasoned, untreated with less than 20% moisture content or kiln dried.

It is good practice to have the flue system swept after you close it down when the summer begins and again before you start using the stove for the winter period.
